Are you finding it peculiar why you are procrastinating so often while others seem to be comfortably transcend from procrastination to motivation
So what exactly is procrastination and how you can deal with those procrastination problems efficiently? To put in simple terms, procrastination is the simple act of putting off, delaying or deferring an action to a later time.
~Douglas Adams~
There are many reasons why people choose procrastination over action. For some, they will put off doing the tasks at hand until the deadlines draw near. For them, deadlines act as a source of their motivation.
It is an undeniable fact that stress sometimes can act as a source of motivation. However, that is only true when the stresses are still manageable. Also, the more tasks you put off till a later date, the harder it will be for you to fully concentrate on other more important issues like pursuing your ultimate goals in life.
As a matter of fact, the more you procrastinate, the less motivated you will be to accomplish any tasks at hand. Procrastination is just like a gremlin, the more you feed it, the bigger it will grow till you cannot control it.
Procrastination is actually inversely proportional to your level of motivation. The more motivated you are in your tasks, the lesser your procrastination will be. However, the vice versa is also true.
You can attend all the time management courses out there and still procrastinate in completing your work at hand. No, I am not saying that there is no correlation between time management and procrastination.
To a certain extent, your cause of procrastination may be due to your lack of prior planning. If so, time management will help in curing your procrastination in this case.
Still, the time management techniques only aid you in prioritizing and better handle the numerous tasks at hand. However, if you cannot get yourself to do those tasks, no amount of planning will help you in that.
Thus, the key to how to eliminate procrastination is simply to move from procrastination to motivation. Find out what is it that really propels you forward.
As a matter of fact, there are two main reasons why you will want to reach your goals. The first reason is to move towards pleasure while the other is to move away from pain.
Thus, in order to move from procrastination to motivation, you have to first decide what pleasures you can acquire by accomplishing the delayed tasked at hand. Also, identify the pains you have to endure by staying where you are now, constantly putting it off.
And not to forget, visualize vividly in your mind’s eyes, all the pains and discomfort you have to go through should you continue to procrastinate in doing the important tasks at hand.
For some, pleasures can be a source of motivation while for others, the avoidance of pain is a better motivator in their lives.
Determine which one works best for you.
If you do what you have done, you will get what you always got. To do something over and over again and expect a different result is insanity.
Motive and action constitutes motivation . The bigger your motive, so is your action. The steps to moving from procrastination to motivation are simple. They will work as long as you work them.
Remember, the reason why successful people are able to comfortably transcend from procrastination to motivation is because they always do what the unsuccessful won’t, not can’t.
You too can be the success you want to be in your life, if you are willingly to do what you know.
