Can Conquering Procrastination Help In Reducing Stress?

Stress, one of the most common sickness modern people are suffering.

The main cause of it? Well, I believe it to be procrastination. The No.1 culprit for majority of the the stress we experience in our lives today.

In fact throughout human history, great thinkers and philosophers have noticed the close connection between the failure to take actions and the feeling of anxiety.

“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging of an uncompleted task.”
~~ William James ~~

Now if you are someone who is constantly putting off tasks which you are afraid of doing or you tend to avoid situations or events which terrify you, then most likely your fears have grown out of proportion.

And if you still have no intention of managing and overcoming those fears, not only are you inviting stress into your life, you are also attempting to lower your self confidence every time you decide not to do something because of the fear of failing, or even the fear of success!

So how do you actually overcome fear? Well, one of the most direct and simple way is to force yourself to do the thing you are terrified of.

When you are willingly to face your fear and to do that no matter what, you are actually putting yourself on steroid and giving your confidence a big boost.

Soon you will be laughing at your imaginary fears which have actually kept you from doing the things you dream of doing and becoming the success you want to be.

After all, fear is just an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real.

In addition, another very good way to keep your fear at bay is to establish specific goals.

Also, you will want to note your progress through feedbacks from your friends and loved ones. So what happens after you have attained your goals? Well, give yourself a reward or a pat on your back for finishing the job on time. Be appreciative of your own efforts.

Of course, along the way, you are surely going to find challenges and meet up with difficulties in your job which most likely will reignite the fear in you.

Therefore, keeping a group of supportive friends around you will greatly aid you in your quest in overcoming your fear and procrastination.

Having a mentor by your side is one good way to get external support. Usually, mentor is a person who have “being there, done that”. Thus he or she will be able to share with you valuable knowledge and impart you with those necessary life-changing skills to aid you in your success.

Moreover, a mentor is someone whom you will want to be accountable to with regards to your progress so that he or she can point out to you the areas which you will need to make adjustments or improve on.

And last but not least, spiritual support helps too.

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
~~ Bible (Phil. 4:13) ~~

Most of our stress can be simply be avoided and eliminated simply by letting go of our bad habits of procrastination.

You are very, very right when you say that procrastination and fear lead to stress and that having a mentor to help guide you is one tool that can truly help. When I was completely stressed out because I wasn’t paying bills on time and I was constantly afraid of having my things repo’d or utilities turned off, I was introduced through a lecture to Dr. Judith Orloff. Her teachings helped me learn to control my stress factors, stop procrastinating and stop living in fear. She really helped me change my life.
